GOLF TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

November 11, 2022, CC of Roswell, 8am registration, 945 am shotgun start. See the Updates tab for the latest information.

MISSION

Athletes for a Better World accomplishes its mission to teach and reward excellence in athletic character in three parts:  the first by rewarding exemplary accomplishments in sports, academics, community service, and character through its Georgia high school Vincent J. Dooley Awards & Scholarships program; secondly through the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup by recognizing professional, college and nationally selected high school athletes for achievement in sports, character, and citizenship; and finally, by teaching athletic character formation through its Code for Living curricula studies program.  Additional information about the mission and the accomplished athletes we honor may be found at www.abw.org.

TESTIMONIALS

… for the ABW Curriculum book Winning More Than The Game

“This book will further spread the value and lessons of the Code for Living to all athletes, at all levels, for many lifetimes to come. These positive role model principles summarize the athlete’s responsibility as an individual, as a member of a team, and as a member of society. It is a treasured gift.” – Coach Vince Dooley

…for the ABW Code for Living

“Sport is only a part of our lives. The Code for Living isn’t just good for those of us who are professional athletes; it’s good for kids of all ages and their parents.” – Peyton Manning, NFL Hall of Fame

“We believe that there are many life lessons that can be learned through sports, and that, when taught properly, sports can help us grow on and off the field.  Winning More Than The Game and its Code for Living are valuable for athletes, coaches, and parents, and ABW’s mission to make everyone stronger through sports is one we can all learn from.” – Cal Ripken, Jr., Baseball Hall of Fame

“ABW is working to create the proper values and environment in sports for our young people to grow up in. The Code for Living is needed at every level of sports today.” – Tom Glavine, Baseball Hall of Fame

Update from 8/22/2022

Play Golf for FREE in the ABW Golf Tournament!!

How to set up your personal fundraising web page Go to www.donorrise.com/ABWGolf/Golf2022, call John White at 404- 310-7176 if any questions. Or email him at johngfgs@gmail.com

  • Click on the green rectangle that reads “Become a Fundraiser”
  • Create an account (providing them with your email address, password, first and last name)
  • Have a picture on your computer ready to post (it could be a picture of you, a golf ball, BUT the site requires you post some type of picture)
  • Write a brief personal message (The home page summary contains information that will be viewable to everyone who chooses to support you.  The brief personal message should be just that, personal.  What about ABW’s mission resonates with YOU?  Why should your friends/family support you and this effort?)
  • Fill in the “Goal Amount” as $1500 (or more!)
  • Choose the team you want to join.
  • Choose how you want the link to be personalized to you.  Whatever you put in this box will be how the link finishes.  For example: www.onorrise.com/ABWGolf/Golf2022/johndoe
  • Choose a team you would like to join from the drop down menu.

After you “Become a Fundraiser” you will be able to share your personalized link via email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and text.  It is very user friendly. PERSONALIZE YOUR MESSAGE!

What happens when someone uses my link and wants to make a donation?

  • A potential donor clicks on your personalized link and is taken to your donorrise page.
  • The donor clicks on the blue rectangle that reads “Make a donation”
  • The donor will be able to use a credit card or checking account information to make a donation.
  • Once a donor contributes using your personalized link, they will become one of your sponsors.  When you check your link you will be able to see how many sponsors you have and how much each sponsor gives.  The sponsor’s name will also be available unless they choose to give anonymously.

What if I use snail mail to send out sponsor requests?

  • Many people choose to use snail mail and electronic mail, you can definitely do both or choose one.
  • If you are golfing, you should have a golfer/ ambassador’s packet.  If you don’t, please let me know and I’ll get one mailed out to you.  In the packet you will find copies of the attached letter, sponsor cards, envelopes and an Ambassador’s handbook.  You will need to write your name on the sponsor cards, on the left side where it says, “Count me in! I’m excited to help make a difference by sponsoring (your name).
  • You can mail the sponsor letter (available through me) to your friends asking for support. Handwriting a brief personal message to your friends or family on the attached letter is recommended.
  • If you are setting up an electronic link as well as sending some letters snail mail, write your link on the letter.  It is an easy way for your donor to give and to have their gift tracked to you.
  • Please include a note to the potential donor receiving a letter in the mail, to make checks payable to ABW.  The packet includes envelopes for you to send out your letters.  It is up to you if you want to include a stamp for and/or return envelope for them to mail in their sponsorship.

Whether you choose to use email, snail mail or both, your fundraising efforts will be the most successful when you follow up with the people whom you sent the letter.  Best practice is to follow up with a phone call within 10 days.

If you send a fundraising link via email, I suggest texting your friends and family to let them know they are getting an email from you that you would really like them to read. People are so inundated with email, they may miss yours.
